How It Works

DetailedView

The simplicity of the technology ensures minimal maintenance and long-term reliability. When the paddle is pushed, only the actuator rod, the intake valve and the check valve move. Due to the simplicty of the design, The Drinking Post horse waterer will provide an unlimited supply of clean water year round.

The post can be installed anywhere — in stables, paddocks or pastures — wherever your horses need convenient access to fresh, clean water.

In addition, The Drinking Post horse waterer is housed in a tough 8″ diameter pipe which dependably withstands the elements and the abuses of life in the field or barn.

Installation of The Drinking Post horse waterer is very simple and straight forward. Below is a drawing of the overall installation requirements. Frequently asked questions regarding installation:

What size Drinking Post do I need – 6′ or 8′?
Determining the correct size of Drinking Post to order is determined by the frost line depth in your local area. The frost line is the maximum depth that the ground will freeze in the winter. Proper installation requires that the BASE of The Drinking Post be installed a MINIMUM of 18″ below your local frost line to prevent freezing in the winter.
Once you determine your local frost line depth, add 18″. If this figure is equal to or less than 36″, order a 6′ post. If you local frost line depth, plus 18″ is greater than 36″, order an 8′ Drinking Post.

What is the frost line in my local area?

There are few avenues one can use to determine the frost line in your local area:
1.) Contact your local Building Inspection Department
2.) Contact your counties Water Department.
3.) Any reputable local excavator will be able to quickly tell you what the frost line is in your local area.
Unfortunately there is no web based service or internet site that lists frost line depths across the country. However, it is possible the website for you local municipalities (Water or Building department) may list this information online.

The Drinking Post can be installed anywhere you have a pressurized water line with at least 45 psi of pressure. This includes in pastures, barns, paddocks, on a fence line…ANYWHERE.
